Secretary of State for the Colonies.

Governor, Hong Kong.

1st May, 1946.

Your sympathetic and encouraging message was received

by me today after the conclusion of the ceremony at which I

resumed the Government of the Colony. It was not therefore

possible for me to deliver it at that ceremony but I am now

giving it the fullest publicity.

On behalf of the people of Hong Kong I tender our most

sincere thanks to you for your greetings and for the confidence

you have in the future of Hong Kong.

Governor.
